Jack McCarthy is a racing driver based in Bromley and in 2019 is competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the fastest one-make championship in the UK.
Jack started in kart racing at just eight years of age at a local indoor circuit. After just a few visits, he showed enough talent to take his karting race licence test and in his first year of competition, he took many victories in club level racing at Bayford Meadows, Rye House and Buckmore Park.
With his talent shining through in club racing, the decision was made for Jack to graduate to national competition in 2010 in the Super One British Championship. Despite most the circuits being new to him, he showed great speed to finish the championship in sixth overall.
An impressive second season in the series netted him fourth in the standings, which led to a big year in 2012 as Jack moved up to the higher powered Rotax Mini Max class and excelled on track with the highly regarded Project One Race Team.
A first foray into European competition came as part of a development year in 2013, which led into an impressive 2014 campaign in the Junior class with top Rotax team Strawberry Racing as Jack finished fourth in Britain and a creditable eighth in Europe.
A terrific 2015 season saw Jack take the Dubai ‘O’ Plate title, second place at the Rotax Winter Cup at Campillos in Spain, a dominant win in the Euro Max Opener at Salbris in France, and then sensational title wins in the Rotax Junior European and British series.
Securing the ‘O’ Plate title again kicked off 2016 in fine style for Jack, with strong results throughout the year securing him the prestigious Super One British Championship once again; a fine end to his karting career as he moved into car-racing the following year.
Jack entered the Renault UK Clio Cup and was an absolute revelation, qualifying on the front row on his championship debut and securing a pair of outright podium finishes and five ‘Graduates Cup’ class wins across his maiden campaign with Team Pyro.
He continued to excel in his second season in the tin-top series with two pole positions and six further top three results including a superb breakthrough victory at Rockingham, which guided him to a second consecutive top eight championship finish.
For 2019, Jack is competing in GT competition for the first time in the ultra-competitive Porsche Carrera Cup GB behind the wheel of a 485hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. He has signed with Redline Racing, the most successful team in championship history.
